About the Researchers

Hello all! This is a Digital History Project page for Dr. Snider’s “History of Rock n’ Roll” class that was taken in Fall of 2018 by Kinsey Farmer, Carley Carder, and Hannah Clark at Berry College. 3 students, different majors, one similar passion. Although Kinsey is a junior secondary education and history major, Carley is a senior environmental science major and a history minor, and Hannah is a senior communication major, they all took this class for their love of music. For this specific project, the students wanted to learn more about ghostwriting in the R&B/Hip-Hop era. This idea came to mind when Carley did one of her class assignments, which was a song analysis presentation for a specific genre of rock n’ roll music. Carley had the genre British Invasion and Garage Rock, and chose to do her analysis on the song “House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals. During the presentation, Carley mentioned how the song had an unaccredited ghostwriter and at that moment, the project idea was born. Kinsey, Carley, and Hannah chose to do their project on the R&B/Hip-Hop genre of rock n' roll music because of their similar interest in the type of music. The project focuses on ghostwriters in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, and how ghostwriting has continued into present day. Kinsey analyzed 80's ghostwriters, Hannah the 90's, and Carley the 00's. The website and its contents were created equally between the students. The project was completed on December 4, 2018. Kinsey, Carley, and Hannah hope you fellow music lovers enjoy their findings!
